Reading

1. Little Womenis a story_about four sisters. Work in pairs. Look at the pictures and discuss the questions.

1. What are the characters doing in the picture? They are reading and listening to a story.
2. Where do you think they are? They are at home (in the living room).
3. Do you think that the characters have a good relationship? why/ why not? Yes, because they are all sitting together and look happy.

3. Look at the verbs in red in the text. Use a dictionary to check the meaning. Write them in your notebook.

wonder: think about something and want to know why it is true.
hide: go to a place where you cannot be seen or found, or put something in a place where it cannot be seen or found.
cry: produce water from your eyes, usually because you are sad, angry or hurt.
hug: put your arms around someone and hold them. closely, usually because you love them.

5. Ask and answer the questions in pairs.

1. Why do you think that Jo reads the story before she tells them she wrote it? She wants them to hear it before they know she wrote it, perhaps to get a more honest answer from them.
2. Why does Beth say she is "so proud"? Because she likes the story and is proud of her sister.
